There are large amounts of public liability claims.  You can be injured going into a shop, cinema, theatre or into somebody else’s workplace.

Duty of care
If you are a lawful visitor to premises then the occupier of the premises or owner of the premises or both will owe you the duty of care under the Occupiers Liability Act.  If because of want of care on the part of the owner/occupier you are injured then in a lot of cases you would be entitled to compensation from the owner or occupier.

Even if you are a visitor to somebody else’s house they still owe you a duty of care and very often the compensation can be obtained from the insurance company that covers the contents of the property or the owner/occupier.

Sometimes you can also be injured as a consequence of activities of animals.  If the animal isn’t controlled properly then, in certain circumstances, you can recover compensation from the owner of the animal, e.g. if a dog bites you then the owner will probably be insured either on his contents insurance or through a pet policy, which will enable you to recover compensation from the insurance company not from the owner.
